CGI & Post
When Fiat released the new 500 back in 2007 we were particularly impressed with the distinctive retro-look and how true to the original iconic form the design was. To play homage to the design, we thought we would use the car as a test bed for some lighting development work in the studio.
The 500’s design particularly lends itself to good lighting due to its natural curves and glancing angles for reflections. As a starting point, we created a virtual photography studio which enabled us to control all the aspects of lighting on the car using real world camera settings. From previous experience we knew the paint shaders would either make or break this project, so careful consideration was taken to get the metallic look.
The end result is a series of beautiful cgi stills which shows this car off to its full potential.
